Call for Proposals: Research Posters and Presentations

Submission deadline is September 18, 2023.

The FMEA Research Committee invites researchers from collegiate faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students to submit proposals for the FMEA professional development conference research poster session that will occur from 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. on Friday January 12, 2024.

We welcome submissions of unpublished research in music education, reviews of literature, action research, and works in progress from FMEA members and out-of-Florida researchers. Topics related to music teaching and learning will be considered. Submissions for this conference may also have been accepted for publication, but should not have appeared in print prior to the conference. Reports presented at other conferences are eligible if the audience was substantially different. A statement specifying the particulars of any prior presentations must be included with the submission.

Submissions for posters should include:

(1) An APA-style abstract of 300-500 words. Include the study title, description of the problem under investigation, clearly stated purpose statement/research question(s), methods used (including brief descriptions of the study design, sample, and sample size), data sources, data analysis procedures, study results, and implications (i.e., why this study is important, applications of the results or findings). Do not include any identifiable information in the body of the abstract.

(2) Identifying information to be submitted separately includes: name of author(s), status (faculty, graduate student, undergraduate student), institutional affiliation, and an email address.

Graduate students attending Florida universities who submit for the poster session have the opportunity to be considered for an oral research presentation session, too. They should follow this poster submission process and should indicate their interest in being considered on the online form. A more extensive report of an original research project is expected, longer than an abstract. The two students who receive the highest evaluations will be invited to give 20-minute presentations during a separate conference session on Friday, January 12, 2024.

Please direct inquiries about conference research sessions to William I. Bauer, FMEA Research Chair, at wbauer@ufl.edu.
