Research Perspectives in Music Education (RPME) is the official refereed research journal of the Florida Music Education Association.
The Editorial Committee welcomes manuscripts for publication. The journal publishes music education research using qualitative, quantitative philosophical, historical, or theoretical methodologies and reviews of literature with critical synthesis. In all cases, implications for music educators must be included.
The FMEA research bulletin, Research Perspectives in Music Education, accepts manuscripts of approximately twenty pages or less for review using any research methodology (e.g. quantitative, historical, philosophical, speculative, bibliographic). Submission of a manuscript for review indicates that the material is not currently submitted for publication elsewhere. Authors should present research with clarity when reporting the purpose, procedures, and conclusions, and when possible include implication for and applications to music education.
All submissions should conform to The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition, 2010), but qualitative, philosophical, and historical manuscripts may conform to The Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition, 2010). The ideal length of the manuscript is 20 to 25 pages, including references, tables, and figures. Longer or shorter papers will be considered when such lengths are warranted. Each manuscript should be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 120 words. Submissions for RPME must not have been submitted simultaneously to another journal. Authors must state on the cover page whether the paper has been presented at a meeting or has been published, in whole or in part, in another venue. RPMEwill not consider papers that are published elsewhere or do not conform to these guidelines. Authors are responsible for copyright clearance on illustrations, figures, or lengthy quotes used in the report that have been published elsewhere.
All submissions will be reviewed by at least three members of the Editorial Board, and may be accepted, accepted with revision, or rejected. Upon acceptance of the research for publication in the bulletin, the author will be notified and the author will transfer all literary rights on the published article to the Florida Music Education Association. Prior to publication the Editor must receive a signed transfer of the copyrights. Contributors are responsible for copyright clearance on illustrations, figures, or lengthy quotes used in their manuscripts that have been published elsewhere.
Authors are invited to email submissions to the editor at firstname.lastname@example.org. In the subject header of the email please use this format: "RMPE Submission – PrimaryAuthorLastName". Please attach the following two (2) attachments to your email as a separate Microsoft Word "DOC", "DOCX" or Adobe Acrobat "PDF" documents:
For multiple-author entries, the editor will communicate with the first author only.
Three members of the Editorial Board will blind-review submissions that conform to the guidelines above. Authors normally will be notified of the status of the review within two months.
